10 Halloween Costumes (That You Might Not Have Thought Of!)

You know I love Halloween. It’s basically the runway that the rest of the year only dreams of. It’s when we get to lean into our weird, dramatic, horror-glam fantasies without any judgment. It’s the one night you can show up as whatever you want, and people will applaud your audacity (or run).

This year, I’m channelling costumes that feel like performance art meets TikTok meets your fave high-fashion editorial. I’ve picked ten costumes you might not have thought of each with one beauty product to anchor the look for a bit of extra inspiration!

Pierrot the Clown | M.A.C - Maximal Matte Lipstick

Think ruffles, soft white face, a single tear, oversized tailoring, and that 17th-century haunting clown energy. Although spooky, this is quite simple to recreate.

Use this incredible matte black lipstick to draw a smeared, inky mouth or a little “bruise” stain at the lip corners. It’s refillable, bold, stark – perfect for contrast against pale makeup. Also: a white face powder, black eyeliner, and a ruffled collar will do wonders.

The Bat | Huda Beauty - Pretty Grunge

Okay, you might be thinking, “Lis, we’ve obviously thought of dressing as a bat” (I freaking love bats, it’s Halloween!), but have you ever dressed as a high-fashion bat inspired by Dior haute couture?

No capes flapping – just a sleek black outfit, sculptural bat mask, dramatic winged liner, and a hint of shimmer on the cheekbones.

Use the deeper taupe and mauve shades to contour your lids, then deepen with charcoal. The shimmers help give your wings a little glow. Add a matte black eyeshadow (or even a black cream shadow) to smoke out the edges.

The Witch | Charlotte Tilbury - Matte Revolution Love Liberty

Let’s think traditional but make it high fashion. Trench coat, floppy hat, cigarette (a fake one, please!), smoky eyes, and dishevelled hair – very “I dragged myself from supper at Soho House to this.” Obviously inspired by the iconic Martine Sitbon macabre SS93 show.

Pick a deep berry or wine tone – modern, rich, sexy. Use it with a bit of blotting to look lived-in. Pair with a charcoal pencil smudged around the eyes and a grey/black eyeshadow in the crease.

The Ghost of Last Night’s Party | Patrick TA - Silky Lip Creme Complicated

White slip dress, loose tousled waves, dark lipstick smudged, maybe pearls or sequins left behind. Or even just one shoe. You’re half here, half memory… iconic, easy to do and very effective.

Go for a muted shimmery shade or silvery nude to give that ethereal “seen one too many cocktails” slip. Pair with a soft smokey eye, a little highlighter, and messy hair.

Disco Pumpkin | Fenty Beauty - Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette

Glittery orange, sequins, orange metallics, disco ball energy meets a pumpkin. Imagine Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’s and the iconic olive scene… that but a giant glittering orange pumpkin. Time to get the paper-mâché out!

That bold orange shade? Perfect. Use it as your primary lid colour, blend out with dark brown, then finish with golden highlighter and maybe orange or black glossed lips.

Chic Cat Burglar | Rixo - Zenni Beaded Bucket Bag

Okay, this is way more interesting than the classic cat costume. All black, leather gloves, dark sunglasses, a little sparkle, a faux diamond or bag. You’re not the cat – you are the heist.

This bag? Exactly what you need. Pair with a smoky eye, a flick of metallic on the inner corners, and contour to sharpen the jaw.

The Eclipse | Desigual - Wide Leg Jeans with Panels

Split your face or outfit in two — one side moody blue, the other silver or lunar white. Makeup splits, hair splits, the concept becomes the costume. How fab would it be to wear two different coloured shoes or even some two-toned jeans?! Draw some tiny stars for a little extra sparkle.

If you want an easy outfit base, try these Desigual jeans, perfect for a casual, cosmic vibe:

Katy Perry in Space | Defy Beauty - Liquid Highlighter

Because wasn’t that just an iconic moment of 2025? Imagine a spacesuit, glitter helmet, and a microphone as your prop. Bonus points for a blue wig and bubble-gum lip gloss.

Swipe it on cheekbones, lids, even over lips for an amazing glowy look. Camp, sparkly, and completely ridiculous… in the best way.

Popstar Possession (a.k.a. Britney’s Ghost Tour) | Silver Crystal Microphone

Sticking with popstars but make it scarier than Elon Musk sending celebrities to space. It’s giving “2000s pop icon rises from the glittery grave.” Think low-rise jeans, a headset mic, a shimmery halter, and sunglasses that never come off. Add ghostly white shimmer and smudged eyeliner — like you’ve been dancing in the afterlife since 2002.

The perfect prop!

The Polluted Little Mermaid | Danessa Myricks - Colorfix 24 Hour Matte Cream Oasis

A dark twist on a childhood classic. Ariel’s been swimming through climate change, and she’s not okay. Think seaweed tangled in your hair, a slip dress covered in iridescent shimmer and a touch of grime (smudged grey eyeshadow works perfectly). Add shells, glitter tears, and maybe a plastic bottle or two in your accessories for a bit of eco-commentary chic.

Blend this metallic teal across lids and cheekbones for that “oily sea sheen.” Add a slick of gloss or even a little silver glitter to complete your ocean-haunted look.

There they are my 2025 costume ideas. These aren’t costumes you’d scroll past. Please tag me if you recreate any of these (or any of my previous Halloween makeup looks!). I love that you guys are still recreating my YouTube series from years ago, I love seeing your versions every year!

Happy Halloween!

Love,

Lisa xx
