Have I discovered the secret to a good nights sleep?

Firstly, I have to say, I’ve always been a rubbish sleeper. I think I’ve always found it hard to switch off. However, over the past few months, I’ve found a few things that have def helped. A big one being ‘do not disturb’. That’s right, at 10pm I literally switch off. My Apple Watch turns all of my devices to DND. Meaning I can’t even have a last minute Instagram scroll. That was painful at first! I choose 10pm as that’s an hour before I go to sleep. This is also the time that I plug my phone in for the night, never in my bedroom. This has also been a huge help.

My Neom diffuser pod is also a revelation. I chuck in a lavender based oil about an hour before bed time. Lavender is known to relax you, and I really believe it makes a difference.

So, with those things in place, I’ve def been sleeping better. However, the one thing that’s been disturbing this has been lower back and hip ache. This is more than likely down to my endometriosis. When I mentioned this to a couple of friends, they suggested I try the Bed of nails. At first I thought this was some sort of torture tool! I meannnn a bed of actual nails?!!! How is that supposed to be relaxing? After a bit of research, i discovered that this is, in fact, a modern version of the mystical bed of nails that has been used in Meditation for over 1000 years. It’s basically a pretty sleek mat covered in thousands of non-toxic plastic nails that are harmless to the skin, nut that supposedly have all the healing benefits as the original bed of nails.

The benefits being that it can help with stress, insomnia, pain, as well as increase your energy levels and overall well being. It does that by stimulating the energy In the body. Similar to acupuncture, the pressure of the rounded nails helps to release the bodies natural endorphins. So obvs I immediately bought one and put it to the test.

You’re supposed to use it for approximately 20 mins each day. I choose to do this at night time as I wanted to see if it helped my pain and my sleep pattern. So, you lie on in naked, on the floor. I’m not going to lie, this was bloody painful at first. I mean it is like having thousands of nails stuck in your back. Once you get off you do see some redness and the indents in your back, and it feels slightly itchy, but that subsides after a few minutes. Someone then suggested laying it on the bed and lying on it on there. This was a game changer. It was still uncomfortable, but not as much for sure. I was also told to lie on it with a tshirt on. I felt this masked the feeling too much so didn’t stick with that technique.

So for the past 3 weeks, I’ve used it 20 mins a day. At first, I didn’t really see a huge difference. However, I’ve got to say that after a week of using it, I noticed that my back ache had gone and that I was sleeping through the night. Seriously! Theo’s also been using it consistently, and has also found the same results. Obvs with this kind of thing, I never know if it’s all subconscious because I’m trying something new. But let’s be honest, who cares! It’s working somehow. A few friends have also bought it and say the same. And my physio has noticed that my hips aren’t as bad. And, in the words of Shakira, ‘your hips don’t lie’!

I recently purchased the pillow too and I love it. It’s a great addition and has been brilliant for my notoriously tight neck.

So all in all, Bed of nails, I love you. So much so that I contacted the guys who own it to say thank you and they gave me a 15% off code for you to use. It’s BON15LISA and the link is here.

I would never rave about something if it didn’t work or if I hadn’t tested it fully. Long may the pain free, deep sleeps continue. Oh, and if you do try it, please, please let me know how you get on. This technique has been used for over a thousand years for a reason hey?!

Love & lipstick,

Lisa xx
