The Hair Edit: Leave-Ins, Masks & Scalp Serums I'm Currently Obsessed With

There's a particular kind of hair despair that only really hits post-summer: the sun's had its way with you, the sea salt spray was fun at the time, and suddenly your ends look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards.

So I've spent the last few weeks doing what I do best: throwing an unreasonable number of products at the problem until something sticks. I’m determined to emerge from this hot spell with hair that looks luscious, not limp! So, here are the leave-ins, hair masks and scalp treatments that are working a treat.

Leave-Ins:

Gisou | Honey Milk Active Repair Leave-In Conditioner Mist

I love this honey-infused mist for an easy, no-fuss hit of moisture. I simply spritz it through damp hair and it detangles my waves in a jiffy. And it makes your hair smell like you’ve just been to the salon!

Hairdressers have been banging on about this for years and, now that I’ve tested it, I’m not surprised. The formula works like an all-purpose primer to protect against heat, UV and general life (frizz, flyaways, the windy Tube) without weighing your hair down. If you're reaching for hot tools on most days, this is a good bet.

Firstly, Amika’s packaging gives me such a dopamine boost. It’s all so cute and bright. Anyway, think of this formula as a big glass of water for thirsty, dehydrated hair; it’s packed with hyaluronic acid and perfect for post-swim, straw-like strands.

Living Proof's whole thing is science-backed haircare that doesn't feel overwhelming, which I love. This spray effortlessly detangles and smooths without leaving any annoying, greasy residue behind.

If you’re a big fragrance fan, then this one’s for you. Ouai formulas always smell sensational, and they’re a must if you like to have that tousled, undone, model-off-duty kinda look. This leave-in conditioner will define waves, minimise frizz and make you feel sexy.

This is a fairly new brand, but don't let that put you off. This formula is all about rebuilding bonds and locking in moisture, making it an excellent shout if your hair's compromised from colour treatments, heat styling or chlorine. Ten minutes with this on and you'll feel (and see) a big difference.

Sam McKnight has done hair for basically every supermodel you can think of, so it tracks that his mask is designed for people who do not have time to sit around for forty-five minutes with a shower cap on. Use this for just five minutes and expect intense results… like the hair equivalent of a power nap.

This one made everyone lose their minds a couple of years ago, and it's still very much earning its cult status. Rather than sitting on the surface of the hair, the formula works at a molecular level to repair damage from the inside out. And, get this, there’s no need to rinse! If you've been heavy-handed with bleach or heat, this is like a reset button.

This is my go-to for SOS moments when literally nothing else is working. It’s like CPR for hair on the brink of death. The formula is rich and indulgent, and it works to add elasticity and bounce back into lifeless locks. Leave it on for as long as you can bear before rinsing, and go easy if you have thin hair because it can feel a tad heavy.

Olaplex needs no introduction at this point, but this mask deserves a mention of its own. It's thick, luxurious and great for anyone whose hair leans dry or damaged. A little goes a long way, so don't feel like you need to slather it on with abandon. Save those pennies and make it last!

This formula gives your scalp a deep and satisfying clean. Charcoal draws out impurities while tea tree gives a cooling, almost tingly sensation that feels SO satisfying, especially on hot days. It also really helps to soothe flaky, itchy and oily scalps.

This treatment applies the brand’s famous science-forward approach to hair and scalp health. It's an investment, sure, but if you've dabbled in the brand's skincare and rate it, you’ll know it’s worth it.

A dry and itchy scalp is such an underrated form of misery, but this treatment tackles it without leaving any greasy residue behind. It’s just a classic, no-nonsense formula that works.

Another Ouai favourite of mine, this serum focuses on balancing the scalp's microbiome. It’s a soothing, lightweight serum that's easy to slot into your routine.

Another one that smells delicious, this treatment calms and hydrates dry scalps almost instantly, and a little goes a long way.

Healthy hair really does begin with the scalp and end with proper conditioning. Annoyingly, there are no shortcuts or miracle fixes for damaged hair, but with a bit of consistency and TLC (plus the right products!), you don’t have to have crispy strands forever. Whether you’re a dye devotee or a slave to the salty sea, I hope there's something in this edit to keep your hair going!

Right, I'm off to sit in a hair mask for as long as I possibly can. As always, let me know how you get on!

Love,

Lisa xx
