2026 Makeup Trends You Can Actually Wear in Real Life

We see trends spring up (pun intended) everywhere at this time of year: the catwalk, the red carpet, Instagram, the lot. And while they look incredible, they can feel slightly unapproachable.

The truth is that most makeup trends are wearable, it’s just about how you adapt them.

As a makeup artist I get to create some super-cool, intricate, editorial looks, but I can also take something that feels a bit too “fashion” and translate it into something that works in real life, whether you’re getting ready five minutes before the school run, getting dressed for work, or dolling up for a night out.

So, let’s break down the biggest makeup trends for 2026 and how to make them feel effortless, modern, and completely wearable.

The Blurred Lip

This trend has been huge on the catwalk and celebs alike. This soft, diffused, slightly undone look is one I’ve actually been using for years, not only on clients and photoshoots, but on myself too.

Why? Because it’s low maintenance, long-wearing, and incredibly flattering.

Instead of a precise lipstick line (that you’re constantly checking for smudges), this gives you a soft stain that fades beautifully throughout the day. You don’t need to top it up, but if you do, then it’s quick and easy to do so in the back of a moving cab.

How to do it:

Tap a small amount of lipstick into the centre of your lips.

Take a small fluffy eyeshadow brush or pencil brush.

Blend out your lipstick using tiny circular motions. Alternatively, you can just press it into your lip with your finger if you prefer.

The key is to diffuse it slightly beyond the natural lip line (though, keep it subtle and don’t go overboard). This is where a pencil brush comes in handy, as it has a small tip, allowing you to buff the colour onto the lip line. The goal is a blurred effect with no hard lines.

You can build up the colour as much as you like, but I love adding a little extra pigment into the centre of the lips for a soft ombré effect.

The best part? It works with all colours: nudes, reds, pinks, oranges – the lot. And it instantly makes lipstick feel more relaxed and modern.

Top tip: I prefer using a matte lipstick over a gloss for this because it doesn’t spread and it’s easier to control. Just make sure you’ve hydrated your lips with a balm beforehand, and wipe off any excess balm before you apply the lipstick.

Flushed Blush

This trend is all about that fresh, healthy, slightly rosy glow that looks like you’ve just stepped inside from the cold or finished a pilates class.

It’s one of the most wearable trends of 2026 because it’s rooted in real, healthy-looking skin and I love it!

How to do it:

I love using a cream blush for this because it melts seamlessly into the skin.

Apply to the top of the apples of your cheeks (slightly higher than the centre).

Use your fingers to pat and diffuse outwards.

Focus on blending it out, rather than keeping the colour in one spot.

If you prefer powders, use a fluffy blush brush to buff it into the skin.

Top tip: use reddish pink tones rather than coral or bronze for a much more natural-looking flush.

My Fave Cream Blushes:

Bobbi Brown | Rouge Pot

The Soft Smoky Eye:

A smoky eye might sound like a “night out” look, but 2026’s version is much softer, more diffused, and completely wearable. Think: no harsh lines – just a wash of blended colour.

How to do it:

Take a cream eyeshadow stick or pencil.

Scribble it lightly across the lid.

Blend using a fluffy brush in circular and back-and-forth motions.

That’s it! Yep, it’s that simple.

Key things to remember:

Keep the edges soft and diffused.

Don’t drag the colour too far down or outward as that can make the eye look droopy.

Use a clean brush to perfect the blend.

My Fave Eyeshadow Sticks:

Laura Mercier | Caviar Stick

My Favourite Tricks:

Curl your lashes and skip mascara. Not only does this speed things up even more, it creates a really modern, editorial-looking finish.

For an extra finishing touch (can you guess what I’m going to say)?

If you guessed “add glitter,” then yep, you’re correct: tap a little shimmer into the centre of the lid. This gives a beautiful “dried gloss” effect that looks soft, luminous, and ethereal. You’ve probably got a pressed shimmer in an eyeshadow palette somewhere, but if not, my fave products for this are:

Urban Decay | Moondust Eyeshadow

Makeup trends don’t have to feel intimidating or unrealistic. It’s not about copying exactly what you see on the runway, it’s about making it work for you by softening, blending and adapting the look to your vibe.

The best makeup looks aren’t just about how they look in photos, but how they make you feel when you catch yourself in the mirror halfway through the day.
