Summer Reading List

What is it about reading on holiday which means you can get through three books in a week?! You know that feeling: you’re on holiday, the sun’s on your face, there’s a spritz (or an iced coffee) in hand, and you’re utterly lost in a good book? Heaven! So now we’re halfway through summer, I’ve rounded up my absolute faves (both recent and books I’ve loved for ages). There’s a little something for everyone in this list…

Fiction:

The Dry | Jane Harper

I recommended this in my Books to Read in 2025 blog [link] and here’s your second reminder to read this book – you won’t regret it! It is set in the Australian outback, it follows a man returning to his hometown for the funeral of a childhood friend who, it’s believed, killed his family before taking his own life. But as secrets unravel, the truth becomes far more twisted… ok I can’t tell you anymore!

This is one of the most excellent thrillers I’ve ever read. Excellent but petrifying as it could be a reality in the world we live in today.  Basically, the enemy has created a version of Smallpox with which he hopes to destroy America, and they need to be stopped. The story is fast-paced and keeps you guessing. And it all begins with a gruesome murder in NYC…

If you’re after a thought-provoking read with a twist of the surreal, Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty is a must. It kicks off with a bizarre in-flight prophecy that spirals into a gripping exploration of fate, fear, and how we live when we think we know what’s coming. With Moriarty’s signature blend of emotional depth and suspense, this one’s perfect for book clubs or anyone who loves a story that lingers long after the last page.

I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so knew I had to pick up this new book by Taylor Jenkins Reid! This is a love story (not something I typically go for!) but it is set against the backdrop of the 1980s US space shuttle programme. Very character-driven and feels quite nostalgic. Honestly, the perfect beach read.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I LOVE a crime book. I always tell Theo if I wasn’t a makeup artist, I’d be a detective – ha! Richard Osman is bringing out the next book in this series later this year, so I knew I had to get on with reading this! So hard to describe this without spoiling it… so I’m just going to tell you, it follows the characters we already know, involves a murder and it is a best seller for a reason!

Written by my brilliant friend Josh, this one is warm, witty, and honest (like catching up with your funniest mate over a glass of wine – and trust me, he is!). This book encourages you to challenge your communication skills beyond those who you are closest with because that can unlock a world of connection. It’s a book that’ll leave you inspired to have more meaningful conversations with everyone in your life.

You’ve heard me talk about my love of Stanley Tucci before. In my recipes blogs, you can always see something inspired by his style of cooking. This book is part memoir, part cookbook, with heart, humour and recipes you’ll want to try immediately. Reading it feels like having dinner at his house – which is obvs my dream!

First of all, how beautiful is the Barbie pink cover?! I love a book that looks good in my house, but this one goes far beyond the cover. It’s an amazing style guide which helps you elevate your wardrobe with minimal effort. This is perfect for a friend that loves fashion or just someone who wants to learn more – inspiring and totally accessible.

This book is full of planted based joy – because we all need to be conscious of our meat consumption. Recipes inspired by cuisines from Bangalore to Beijing, this cookbook is a celebration of bold spices, fresh ingredients and accessible cooking. Love that the recipes are simple enough for weeknights but exciting enough to impress!

I had the chance to visit the Cartier exhibition at the V&A and was absolutely wowed by the collection, the craftsmanship and the rich history behind each piece. The exhibition book captures that same magic – bringing the sparkle, stories and legacy of Cartier right into your home. I wanted a little piece of that experience on my coffee table forever—and this book delivers exactly that.

…and there you have it, my enhanced summer stack of page-turners! Honestly, if you choose just one from this list for your beach bag, you’re in for the perfect sunny escape. I’d love to hear what you’re reading too (because I’m ALWAYS looking for good book recommendations!) so, please tell me your current obsessions!

Love,

Lisa xx
